Planimetric and Topographic information depicted on this site was compiled by
The Sanborn Mapping Company and is based on an aerial flight that was
performed in April 2009. The Horizontal Datum is based on North American Datum
of 1983 (NAD 83 Feet) and the Vertical Datum is based on National Geodetic
Vertical Datum of 1988 (NGVD 88). Property
information has been derived from recorded deeds, plats, public records, and
other data. The intent of this information is to provide the user with a
graphical representation of real property, planimetric, topographic and other
digital information for the Town of Groton. The user should not rely on the data
provided herein for any reason. The map and database information is believed to

Background
The Town of Groton began implementing GIS in April 1990 with a Town-wide Aerial Mapping Project. The information that was developed included the following data layers: building foot prints, roads, parking lots, sidewalks, hydrography, infrastructure, vegetation, recreation areas, railroad lines and 2 foot contours. A digital parcel base was also developed that depicted the information that was shown on the hard copy Tax Assessor maps. This information was updated with new aerial flights in April, 1999, April, 2009 and April, 2015. In October 2002 the Town's GIS data was migrated from a UNIX based platform to Microsoft Windows platform using ESRI's ArcGIS software. This website was developed and is maintained by the Town of Groton's GIS staff utilizing ESRI's ArcGIS, ArcSDE, and ArcIMS technology.
